Box Score The Freed-Hardeman University Lions (7-2) defeated the Wildcats of Culver-Stockton College (1-2) by a score of 9-0. The Lions offense powered their way to victory.
Senior pitcher Tyler Duskin got the nod to start for the Lions. Duskin worked efficiently and posted a clean 1-2-3 inning to begin the game. Christian Presley put the Lions ahead early with a lead-off bomb. The score at the end of the first was 1-0.
In the second inning, Duskin again worked quickly to post another 3 up 3 down inning. The Lions went down quietly in the bottom of the inning.
The Wildcats threatened to score in the third as they collected a pair of singles, but Duskin was able to escape unscaved. The Lions had an opportunity to score in the third but could not scratch a run across. The score remained 1-0.
Duskin returned to the mound with the same approach of working ahead in the count and did just that. The Lions added to their lead after a two-run shot from Kent Rooklin. Mason Libla joined in and put a charge into one for back-to-back jacks. The new score was 4-0.
The new lead gave Duskin more confidence. After two back-to-back singles from the Wildcats, Duskin got three quick outs. The Lions extended the lead from another two-run moonshot from Will McCall and a sacrifice fly from Ryan Stark. The new score was 7-0.
Duskin struck out the side in the top of the sixth. The Lions once again added to the lead with RBI hits from Sean Rooney and Kimmey Johnson. The new score was 9-0.
Duskin looked to finish off his second complete game of the season. The Lions defense held the Wildcats in the bottom of the inning as Duskin shut them out. Duskin received the win as he allowed 0 runs on 7 hits, 0 walks, and 6 strikoutst.
The Lions will play the University of St. Francis later today at Five Wells Field.
