Box Score The Freed-Hardeman University Lions (8-2) rolled over the University of St. Francis Saints (1-4) by a score of 11-0. The Lions bats were rolling throughout the whole game.
Colton Huntt toed the rubber to start for the Lions. Huntt worked quickly to post a 1-2-3 inning. The Lions were able to take a 1-0 lead in the first inning after capitalizing on an error by the Saints.
In the second inning, Huntt made quick work of the Saints hitters and threw another 3 up 3 down inning. The Lions increased their lead with RBI hits from Kimmey Johnson and Sean Rooney. The new score was 4-0.
The Saints threatened to scratch a run in the third but Huntt was able to get the outs he needed. The Lions jumped out to a commanding 7-0 lead thanks to an RBI double from Nathan Lewis and an RBI triple from Hunter Beecham.
Huntt returned to the mound and worked efficiently to get his team back in the dugout. In the bottom of the fourth, the Lions went scoreless for the first time.
Huntt continued his great outing and held the Saints to another scoreless inning. The Lions continued to pour it on the Saints in the fifth inning after several hard hits. Beecham RBI doubled off the wall in right-center field. Sean Rooney then hit his first homer of the season followed by another moonshot from Will McCall. The new score was 11-0.
Huntt began his sixth inning of work with a lead-off walk, but quickly bounced back to strike out the side. The Lions stranded two in the bottom of the sixth and scored no runs.
Huntt looked to finish his shutout as he straddled the mound in the seventh. He slammed the door on the Saints as he posted another 1-2-3 inning. Huntt received the win after his stellar performance, allowing 0 runs on 4 hits, 1 walk, and 7 strikeouts.
The Lions will face St. Fancis once more tomorrow at Five Wells Field.
