Lions Fall in Midweek Contest

Box Score

The Freed-Hardeman University Lions (9-3) lost to the Toppers of Blue Mountain College (5-5) Wednesday afternoon.  Walks and errors contributed to the Lions' loss.

Mason Morgan got the nod for the Lions.  After surrendering two solo homeruns, Morgan settled in and collected the outs he needed to limit the damage.  Will McCall delivered a 3-run moonshot.  The Lions added two more runs after an error and the score after the first 5-2.

Morgan was able to settle in and post a 1-2-3 inning in the second.  The Lions could not get anything going in the second and the score remained the same.

The Toppers were able to scratch another run in the third, shortening the Lions' lead to 5-3.  The Lions threatened to add insurance runs but were unsuccessful in their efforts.

The Toppers jumped out with bases loaded in the fourth and were able to tack on another run against Morgan.  Morgan exited after 3.1 innings pitched and allowed 7 runs on 6 hits, 2 walks, and 1 strikeout.  Quin Bennett entered for relief.  Blue Mountain continued to extend their lead with a base-clearing double.  After the half inning was over, the score was 9-5.  The Lions went down quietly in the fourth.

Blue Mountain threatened to increase their lead, but Bennett was able to escape the jam and strand two runners.  The Lions again could not get anything going. The score after the fifth remained 9-5.

Bennett exited after 1.2 innings pitched allowing 2 runs on 3 hits, 2 walks, and 1 strikeouts.  Hayden Campbell was next to enter the game.  Campbell was able to hold the Toppers and strand two runners. The Lions bats stayed silent in the sixth.

Campbell exited after 1.1 innings pitched allowing 4 runs on 4 hits, 1 walk, and 1 strikeout.  Cam Jennings entered.  Jennings could not record an out in the seventh and exited after allowing 1 run on 1 hit, 2 walks, and no strikeouts.  Evan Koob entered to try and stop the Toppers.  The Lions were finally able to get out of the inning after giving up more runs.  The new score was 16-5.  The Lions were only able to scratch one run and the game concluded.  The Lions were run ruled 16-6 in 7 innings.  Morgan received the loss.

The Lions will open up conference play against Campbellsville this weekend at Five Wells Field.
