Box Score 2 The Freed-Hardeman University Lions (28-11, 15-6 MSC) completed the sweep against the Firehawks of UT Southern (11-24, 3-14 MSC) Saturday evening. The Lions were able to outscore the Firehawks 41-9 over the series.
Senior Tyler Duskin got the start for the Lions in Game 2. He pitched 5 strong innings, allowing 5 runs on 7 hits, 2 walks, and 3 strikeouts. Mason Morgan came in for relief after him. Morgan pitched 1 complete inning, allowing 2 runs on 1 hit, 2 walks, and 1 strikeout. Hayden Campbell came in to finish the game. He pitched a scoreless inning and did not allow a hit.
The Lions offense poured it on the Firehawks the entire game. There were four players that hit homers: Christian Presley, Sean Rooney, Hunter Beecham, and Mason Libla. Four other Lions hitters hit doubles: Presley, Will McCall, Kent Rooklin, Libla. Beecham led the hitters with 5 RBIs. Other Lions with RBIs include Ryan Stark (3), Presley (2), Rooney (2), McCall, Zach Sanders, and Libla. The Lions won Game 2 19-7 with Duskin receiving the win.
RHP Colton Huntt was the starter for Game 3. Huntt had a spectacular performance, pitching 8 scoreless innings. The Firehawks' lone run came in the top of the ninth after Huntt surrendered a solo homer. Huntt exited after 8 complete innings, allowing 1 run on 6 hits, 4 walks, and 9 strikeouts. Evan Koob entered to finish the game. Koob worked quickly to retire the Firehawks.
The Lions offense was slow to start in the final game of the series. Zach Sanders and Mason Libla led the team with multiple hits each. Sanders also accounted for 4 of the team's 5 RBIs that game, with Libla driving in the fifth RBI. The Lions won 6-1 with Huntt receiving the win.
The Lions look ahead to their next midweek matchup against former AMC rival Missouri Baptist on Tuesday at Five Wells Field.
