Box Score 2 The Freed-Hardeman University Lions (30-11, 15-6 MSC) swept the day over the Spartans of Missouri Baptist University (16-15) Tuesday afternoon. The Lions were firing on all cylinders with stellar pitching, quality at-bats, and awesome defense.
Connor Creasy got the nod to start Game 1. In his first start this season, he was able to pitch six shutout innings. Creasy only allowed three hits with three walks and two strikeouts. Luis Torrez-Lopez entered in the seventh to finish the game. The Spartans' lone run came after Torrez surrendered an RBI single.
The Lions struck first in the third inning. Zach Sanders singled up the middle for two RBIs. In the fourth inning, Hunter Beecham extended the lead with a two-run blast over the left field wall. The Lions final run would come in the fifth inning, thanks to an RBI double from Will McCall. The Lions won 5-1 and Creasy received the win.
In Game 2, the Spartans jumped out to an early 3-0 lead after a rocky inning from Wesley Culley. Culley was able to limit the damage and escape the inning. Evan Koob entered in the second for long relief. Koob pitched a spectacular game and went on to post six scoreless innings. Koob only allowed three hits with two walks and four strikeouts.
The Lions were able to cut down the Spartans' young lead in the bottom of the first. Zach Sanders came up clutch with a two-RBI triple. The Lions would not score again until the fourth inning. The Lions scored after an RBI single from Hunter Beecham. In the fifth inning, Ryan Stark plated another RBI with a single to right field. The Lions' final run came in the sixth inning after great baserunning helped Caleb Molo to score. The Lions won 5-3 and Koob received the win.
The Lions look ahead to their next series against the University of Mobile this weekend.
