Box Score 2 The Freed-Hardeman University Lions (25-10, 12-6 MSC) lost both games to the Cumberland University Phoenix (22-16, 11-3 MSC) Saturday afternoon.
Senior Tyler Duskin got the start for the Lions in Game 2. Duskin pitched well enough to keep his team in the game but ultimately received the loss. After 6 complete innings of work, he allowed 4 runs on 7 hits, 1 walk, and 7 strikeouts. The Lions' lone run came in the top of the seventh as they attempted to make a comeback but were unsuccessful in their efforts. The Lions lost 4-1.
Sophomore Colton Huntt started on the mound in the rubber match. In 5.1 innings, Huntt allowed 4 runs on 6 hits, 3 walks, and 8 strikeouts. Wesley Culley entered for relief. After 1 inning of work, he allowed 3 runs on 4 hits, 0 walks, and 1 strikeout. Luis Torrez-Lopez entered for relief. Torrez was able to hold the Phoenix to no runs after 0.2 innings while collecting a strikeout. Evan Koob was the final pitcher of the day. After an inning of work, he limited the Phoenix to 1 run. Huntt received the loss.
The Lions were able to scratch 3 runs across during the game. The first pair of runs came from a 2-RBI homer from William Kelley in the fourth inning. The final run was from Sean Rooney advancing on a passed ball. The Lions fell 8-3.
The Lions look ahead to their next matchup against the Bulldogs of Tennessee Wesleyan University Tuesday afternoon at Five Wells Field in Henderson, TN.
