Box Score BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — Opening the Mid-South Conference's Fall Invitational Tournament, the No. 6 seeded Freed-Hardeman University men's tennis team had a tall task against the No. 1 seed University of the Cumberlands (Ky.) Patriots. With two doubles matches requiring a tiebreak and two singles matches needing three sets, the Lions came up short of the upset by falling 5-2.

In the first of the doubles matches, Merlin Bolema and Maxime Guyon took Martin Muller and Hung Ju Wu to 6-6 to force a first-to-seven tiebreak. The Patriot duo reached seven first to claim the 7-6 (7-3) victory. In an identical match but favoring the Lions, Theo Devals and Pablo Poleo took Torres Rodrigo to a tiebreak beforre winning 7-6 (7-3). The doubles point came down to Nolan Laduree and Braden Young who lost their match to Killian Surmon and Quentin Villetorte 6-0.

The singles flight was just as exciting as the doubles, with Maxime Guyon falling on the No. 1 court to Martin Mullet 6-3, 6-1 before Pablo Poleo dropping his match 6-0, 6-3 to Killian Surmont.

Nolan Laduree dropped his No. 4 court match with Pierluigi Cruypenninck 6-0, 6-2 before Brayden Martin fell on the No. 5 court 6-1, 6-1.

Merlin Bolema needed three sets to take the win over Quentin Villetorte with Bolema sweepting the first set 6-0, but the Patriot bouncing back to with the second set 6-3. Bolema took care of business by winning the final set 6-4. On the No. 6 court, it was Theo Devals that bounced back from a first-set sweep. In the second, Devals won 7-6 before downing Juanchi Alcon 10-8 to finish the match on a high note.
