GEORGETOWN, Ky. — The Lions of Freed-Hardeman University put on a good show at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's NAIA East Regional with two advancing to the round of 32.

In the doubles, two pairs forced an extra game, but both Merlin Bolema/Maxime Guyon and Nolan Laduree/Pablo Polo lost 7-5 with the former falling to Bethel's Pedro Vecci/Sho Takenaka while the latter dropped against Joao Pedro Cardoso and Henning Ebersohn of Union Commonwealth(Ky.) University. Carlos Garcia/Braden Young lost their doubles match 6-1 to Pikeville's (Ky.) Anton Hoffmann/Timur Chsherbakov.

For the singles, Braden Young came out victorious against Campbellsville's (Ky.) Michael Harding 6-3, 6-4. Pablo Poleo won his match against Shawnee State (Ohio) Bear Daniel Cristobal 6-2, 6-2.

With the others earning a bye into the second round, Nolan Laduree dropped his opening round match to hosting Georgetown's (Ky.) Chase Hechemy 6-1, 6-4.

Drawing the No. 9 seed of the tournament, Merlin Bolema lost a marathon match with Union's Henning Ebersohn, needing the tiebreak set where he lost 4-6, 6-3, 10-7. Carlos Garcia needed a tiebreak point in the first set, but lost both sets 7-6 (7-3), 6-1 to Midway (Ky.) Eagle Daniel Pinzon. Maxime Guyon wrapped up FHU's day with a 7-5, 6-3 loss to Shawnee State's Emanuel Casco Vely

Tomorrow in the round of 32, Young will face the No. 9 seed Victor Bourguigon of Union while Poleo will ine up against Pikeville's (Ky.) eighth-seeded Juan Alzate.
