FHU sweeps Georgetown for first MSC win

GEORGETOWN, Ky. — In the first match of a road trip, the Freed-Hardeman University Lady Lion volleyball team picked up their first Mid-South Conference win with a 3-0 (25-20, 25-23, 25-22) sweep of the Georgetown College Tigers.

Audrey Orton got the first kill of the match for the Lady Lions (13-10, 1-4 MSC) on the first rally to set the tone. After the Tigers tied the set 5-5, Autumn Howard rattled off back-to-back service aces to help push FHU to a four-point lead. Georgetown would make a late push to take a 17-16 lead, but a time out righted the ship for the Lady Lions to score five unanswered points book-ended by kills from Hope Breen. Morgan Jackson wrapped the first set with a 25-20 victory with a kill.

The second set proved the closest of the match with FHU and Georgetown (2-14, 0-5 MSC) drawing even on 12 different occasions while swapping leads six times. The Tigers would hold a two-point lead at 23-21, but Breen would rack up successive kills before GC errors gave the Lady Lions the 2-0 match lead with a 25-23 set win.

Marija Milic and Becca Heineman would record early service aces to set the tone in the third set, but the Tigers rallied in the middle to take a 14-13 lead. The Lady Lion front row tallied back-to-back blocks to tie the set late before Milic finished off the sweep with a kill and a block.

Avery Young led the Lady Lions in both kills with eight and in digs with nine while Becca Heineman had three aces. Iza Wos tallied four total blocks in the victory.
