Lions get league win over Tigers

GEORGETOWN, Ky. — The Freed-Hardeman University Lions got their first Mid-South Conference victory of the season with a 2-0 victory on the road against the Georgetown College Tigers.

Freed-Hardeman (9-2-1, 1-2-0 MSC) and Georgetown were back and forth down the pitch a majority of the match with the Tigers getting a shot on goal at 7:50 before the Lions had their first shot at 14:23. FHU's best chance of the half game in the 35th minute when Samuel Sebagabo had a shot on goal before ending the half tied 0-0.

Just over four minutes into the second frame the Lions got a shot past the Georgetown (2-6-1, 0-3-0 MSC) keeper when Avery Flener was streaking down the right side of the pitch before centering a pass to Sebagabo who fired home the game-winning goal at 49:33. Flener netted a goal of his own in the 65th minute after two good passes from Thabo Mahala and Sebagabo. In net Eduardo Almansa made seven saves to record the 2-0 clean sheet.

The Lions will take a brief break from league play first hosting the Central Baptist (Ark.) College Mustangs on October 7 before traveling to Pensacola Christian (Fla.) College on October 10. The regular season will conclude with an insanely difficult stretch playing three straight top-15 opponents.
