The Freed-Hardeman track teams were set to compete at the Rhodes Invitational this past weekend in Memphis, Tenn. However, because of the storms expected, only a few runners were able to compete on Friday to avoid the weather on Saturday.
The women's team had five distance runners race this weekend, four of which competed in the 5k. In the 5k, Mary Pearce was able to bring home the first place medal with a time of 19:01. Megan Lampley finished inside the top 10 with a ninth place finish with a time of 21:15. Isabella Minor set a new PR by over 2 minutes with a time of 27:16. In the 10k, Marlie Thompson secured a top 10 finish.
For the men's team, four runners also competed in the 5k. The crew was led by Barrett Poe who finished in seventh place just barely breaking the 16-minute mark. Lucas Black, Danny Douglas, and Cooper Whitney joined him, and Douglas was able to set a 25 second PR in the event. The men's 4x800m team, composed of Daniel Pucket, Grant O'Neal, Bo Scott, and Tristan Pharr, came in third place with a time of 8:29 in their season debut. Three field throwers were able to compete in the javelin throw. Greer Davis set a new PR by 18 inches giving him an eighth place finish. Yancey Wright broke 100-feet in his javelin debut, and Hayden Bland set a huge PR with a 28.41m throw.Â
The next meet for the track & field teams is on March 21 & 22 at the Murray State Invitational in Murray, Ky.Â
