The men's and women's track and field teams competed at the Mount Laurel Open in Sewanee, Tenn. on April 18, 2026. Two weeks after setting seven school records and 21 PRs, the Lions and Lady Lions set 17 more PRs and picked up three event wins.
Barrett Poe won the 1500m by setting a 15-second PR! Adding onto the outstanding performances, Jackson Overton placed fourth in the 100m dash and second in the 200m. Jay Hunt PRed in both the 100m, by .07 seconds, and in the 200m, by .32 seconds. Lucas Black set a four-second PR in the 800m, and Daniel Puckett and Brock Windham both placed in the top-10. To go along with Poe's 1500m PR, Neal Rowlett set a six-second PR and Windham set a one-second PR both placing in the top-10 of 24 runners.Â
To go along with the six track PRs, the Lions added seven PRs in field, including five in shot put. Jonah Gardner and Malik James both PRed while placing in the top 10, as well as Jonah McKay, William Kirby, and Greer Davis. Kirby also PRed in the discus by over 12 feet, and Davis PRed in the javelin throw as well.
The women's team also set four PRs on the track. LaCaria Moore won both the 100m and 200m dash while setting a PR in the 100m by 0.1-second. Hanna Cherry set a 14-second PR on her way to a third place finish in the 800m, with Mary Pearce finishing in fifth and Zola Dorris in sixth. Pearce finished third in the 1500m, while Poe set a one-second PR`to finish in sixth place.
The track and field teams will compete at the Milkin Invitational in Decatur, Ill. on April 25th before they compete at the Conference Championships.
