ASHEVILLE, N.C. — While Freed-Hardeman University's team competitions have concluded, there is one final opportunity in 2025-26 to don the maroon and white and cheer for the Lions as
Barrett Poe will compete in the NAIA National Track and Field Championship in the 3000 Meter Steeplechase.
To qualify as an individual, a runner must meet a standard time or distance set by NAIA at the beginning of the year. If a student-athlete meets or exceeds that standard at a sanctioned event, they automatically qualify for the National Championship.
After the 3000 Meter Steeplechase standard was set at 9:23, Poe's personal best of 9:34 was well within striking distance. The "Last Chance" meet hosted by Lee (Tenn.) University lived up to its' name for Poe, who logged a 9:22.24 to set a new program record and qualify for the National Championship.
Poe will race in the preliminary round at 7:55 p.m. on May 20 with the finals being held on May 21.
