The Lion and Lady Lion track teams had a very successful weekend at the Mountain Laurel Invite in Sewanee, Tenn. Both teams were able to finish in the top half of teams, with the mens finishing seventh of 15 and the women finishing eighth of 17 teams.
Two Lions got wins in their respective races. Blake Brown got a win in the 1500m race while also setting a PR time of 1:55.26. Bo Scott won the 5,000m race by 13 seconds with a time of 16:15. Alongside Brown, Daniel Puckett, and Barrett Poe also set PRs in the 1500m and secured top ten finishes. Puckett set a .01-second PR while finishing in eighth place, and Poe set a five-second PR and placed 10th. Jay Hunt set a PR in the 400m by a second and a half. Grant O'Neal also got a PR in the 1500m race by five seconds to place 16th. Two throwers set PRs this weekend. William Kirby set a PR in the shot put with a throw of 33 feet, four and a half inches, improving his previous best throw by seven and a half inches. Hayden Bland set a three-foot, two-inch PR in the javelin throw with a throw of 96 feet, four inches.
Mary Pearce also got a win in the women's 1500m race. She won by 13 seconds with a time of 4:58. Eliza Poe was right behind her, placing third with a time of 5:20. Megan Lampley was able to secure a top-five finish in the 800m, breaking the 2:30 mark. The 4x400m relay team, consisting of Lampley, Poe, Pearce, and Elizabeth McKeeby, was able to secure a runner-up finish.
