HENDERSON — Despite a three-run ninth inning from the opposition, the Freed-Hardeman University Lions held on to defeat the (RV) Indiana Tech Warriors 8-7 to open a four-game series.
The pop from the bat of
Trace Anderson has not slowed down as a grand slam got the Lions (15-9) off to a fantastic start to take a 4-0 lead.
For every run scored by the Lions the Warriors (7-2) would answer in the next half inning. The trend continued until the Lions pushed three runs across in the seventh inning. Indiana Tech waited an inning by pulling within one in the top of the ninth before FHU shut down the comeback for the win.
Eight different Lions recorded base hits in the victory with the big fly from Anderson driving in four runs.
Matthew Riley (4-0) struck out six batters in 6 2/3 innings of work.
Jackson Fitzwilson entered and held the Warriors for 1 2/3 innings before
Hunter McLemore (2) came in to shut the door and earn the save in 2/3 innings.
