Softball splits with Firehawks

PULASKI, Tenn. — A quick trip to Pulaski had the Lady Lions of Freed-Hardeman University lining up against former conference foes in the Firehawks of the University of Tennessee Southern. After FHU earned a victory in game one 12-6, UTS evened the day with a 7-4 final.

Myleah Hardy was responsible for eight of the Lady Lions' (15-12) 12 runs including a three-run homer and a grand slam.

The Firehawks (23-14) plated four runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to take a lead, but the Lady Lions would add four runs in the fifth and five in the sixth to take home the win.

Karli Quillin and Gracie Wilson each tallied four hits in the victory while Myleah Hardy's three hits drove eight runners home. Chloe Carter also had two base hits in the win.

Kylee Brown (10-8) got the victory in relief of starter Katy Gartrell.

Gracie Wilson smacked a full-count triple before Chloe Carter Walked to put two runners on. Myleah Hardy continued her strong play at the dish with a three-run homer to left to put FHU on top.

The Firehawks immediately answered when an RBI groundout and an errant throw put two runs on the board.

UT Southern would take a lead in the fourth by scoring four unearned runs including a two-run single.

The Lady Lions were undeterred after three straight singles brought Hardy back to the dish who then belted a grand slam to give FHU the lead back.

Hardy continued her big day with an RBI single before Brooklyn Jimmerson's double plated two. Lynnlee Brown connected for an RBI single to finish the scoring in the FHU win.

The Lady Lions (15-13) jumped out to an early lead after Karli Quillin led off game two with a single before swiping second. She would later score on a throwing error by UTS. FHU would later take another lead in the third with a two-run single from Chloe Carter and a sac fly from Briley Wigginton.

The Firehawks (24-14) immediately tied the game in the bottom of the third before scoring runs in the fifth and sixth to claim victory.

Karli Quillin was 3-4 in game two while Chloe Carter's two hits also came with two RBI. 

Kylee Brown (10-9) was charged with the loss in a 3 2/3 inning relief effort of starter Anna Rogers.

The Lady Lions wasted no time getting on the board with Karli Quillin leading off with a single and a steal before scoring on a UTS error.

A two run single was followed by an RBI double to put the Firehawks on top.

Chloe Carter was the third of five Lady Lions in a row to record a hit with her single plating both Quillin and Lana Rowland. Briley Wigginton would later lift a sacrifice fly to score Carter to give FHU the lead.

After a set of scoreless innings a leadoff double got momentum rolling for UTS who would later have an RBI single and a sacrifice fly.

Up Next

The Lady Lions return to Tucker Field to host the No. 25 Campbellsville University Tigers on April 18-19. The doubleheader games will be played on the 18th beginning at 4:00 p.m. The single game will feature Senior Day on April 19 beginning at 12:00 p.m.
