WEST POINT, Ga. — Opening their season in the Peach State, the Freed-Hardeman University Lady Lion soccer had a strong start before a late comeback from the Point (Ga.) University Skyhawks ended the day with a 2-2 draw.
It took less than four minutes for FHU (0-0-1) to find the back of the net when
Morakane Mokhothu cleaned up a rebound from a shot by
Isabel Croke to score the first points of the new year and give FHU a 1-0 lead at 3:44. The remainder of the first half kept FHU playing defensively with the Skyhawks sending 12 shots toward the net to FHU's five.
The Lady Lions doubled their lead in the 60th minute when
Ellie Woods rocketed a shot from the middle of the box where Croke got into the book again by sliding to make just enough contact to deflect the ball past the Point (0-0-1) keeper and put FHU up 2-0. Point then stunned FHU by scoring two goals in less than a minute with the equalizer coming in the 80th minute.
In net,
Ava Pierce had a solid first half: stopping all seven shots on target.
