HENDERSON — On a busy weekend for the Freed-Hardeman University faithful the Lady Lion soccer team hosted the Brescia (Ky.) College Bearcats. Though the Lady Lions scored a goal, they fell short in a 4-1 loss.
The Lady Lions (0-3-1) found themselves trailing early when a corner kick at 3:05 was perfectly timed for a header to give the Bearcats a lead. After going the remainder of the first half without scores,
Ava Pierce booted away a goal kick that was misplayed by the Brescia midfield. Luckily for FHU
Hadley Husband was there to gather the ball and strike in the 1-1 equalizer in the 43th minute. Halftime momentum shifted Brescia's way in the final minute of the half when a foul in the box set up a successful penalty kick to end the first half with the Lady Lions trailing 2-1.
Early in the second half Brescia (2-1-0) added a third goal with a shot from the left of the keeper at 48:56. In the second half the Lady Lions got five shots off with four of those coming on target, but were all kept out. At 72:45 Brescia netted the final goal of the match after a pass pinballed in the penalty area and found the back of the net.
In addition to her goal,
Hadley Husband led the offensive attack with three more shots and two shots on goal.
Ellie Wood was right behind with three shots.
Ava Pierce notched a double-digit save effort by keeping 11 shots out of the net.
