Late strikes give Lions first loss

HENDERSON — Opening Mid-South Conference play the Freed-Hardeman University Lions fell short against the Campbellsville University Tigers 3-1 Saturday night.

The Lions (7-1-1, 0-1-0 MSC) were stunned 69 seconds into the match when cross was bobbled in the penalty area. Several players went for the ball with the Tiger striker sending the ball across the goal line to score the first goal.  Freed-Hardeman struck the equalizer at 35:49 when a foul in the box set up a penalty kick. Martin Theissen took the shot and fooled the keeper to tie the match 1-1 at intermission.

Another quick goal to open the second half put Campbellsville (5-3-0, 1-0-0 MSC) on top at 50:19. Dantae Mcdonald fired a shot to try and level the scores but the Tiger keeper kept the score 2-1. In the 88th minute Campbellsville danced along the goal line and sneaked a goal into the net to end the match 3-1.

Dantae Mcdonald led FHU with three shots while Tyler Burns ended with two. In goal Eduardo Almansa had four saves.
