FHU falls to #4 by two runs

COLUMBUS, Ga. — To conclude the 2026 National Fastpitch Coaches Association Kickoff, the (RV) Freed-Hardeman University Lady Lions led early, but ultimately fell to the No. 4 Georgia Gwinnett College Grizzlies, 6-4.

After the Grizzlies got on the board first, the Lady Lions (3-4) answered with a big hit from Myleah Hardy, who connected for a three-run blast to give FHU a 3-1 lead. Annalee Qualls drove home FHU's final run of the inning with a single.

Georgia Gwinnett (8-10) answered well with a four-run second inning before adding another run in the third. Neither team would score in the final four frames, ending the game at 6-4 in favor of GGC.

Chloe Carer was 3-for-3 from the plate while Karli Quillin and Myleah Hardy each tallied two hits.

Anna Rogers (1-1) tossed 1 1/3 innings worth of a start before giving way to the bullpen. Katy Gartrell hurled the final four innings where she struck out three without giving up a run.

Myleah Hardy continued to swing the bat well, launching a three-run home to plate Karli Quillin and Chloe Carter who each reached with singles. Kiersten Mesler had a two-out double before scoring thanks to Annalee Qualls' RBI single.

Two runs would score on one error before a two-run single have the Grizzlies the lead.

After a leadoff walk, a groundout drove in the final run before FHU and GGC dueled out the final four innings wihout scoring.

Up Next

The Lady Lions return home to prepare for another long weekend in Gulf Shores, Alabama, where they will play five games in three days. FHU opens the tournament on March 6 against the No. 21 Texas A&M-Texarkana Eagles before battling the No. 12 Our Lady of the Lake (Texas) University Saints.
