HENDERSON — Beginning the quest for a Mid-South Conference crown, the (RV) Freed-Hardeman University Lions split a Friday doubleheader with the Georgetown Tigers. After falling to GC, 6-5, in the first game, the Lions bounced back to claim game two with a 3-0 victory.

There was no shortage of hits in the first game with Freed-Hardeman (14-6, 0-1 MSC) and Georgetown combining for 21 hits in a seven-inning game.
Drake Blackwood's solo shot got things going for the Lions before Brennen Peterson had a two-run blast later in th contest. It was Georgetown's (9-12, 1-0 MSC) four-run fourth inning that helped lead them to the victory.
Hunter Ryan led FHU's hitting with four hits, while
Drake Blackwood and
Brennen Gibson each had two.
Hunter McLemore (2-1) got the start where he punched out six Tigers in 4 1/3 innings.

In the second game, FHU (15-6, 1-1 MSC) waited until the bottom of the fifth inning to get on the board before Brennan Gibson's leadoff shot in the sixth gave the Lions some breathing room.
Though Georgetown (8-13, 1-1 MSC) put a pair of runners on the basepaths in the ninth inning, FHU shut them down to even the series.
Brennen Gibson had two of FHU's seven hits to lead the offense.
Jackson Fitzwilson (5-1) and
Joe Romines (2) teamed up for the combined shutout with Fitzwilson earning the win with two strikeouts while Romines shut the door with two innings of one-hit work.
