LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. — Fighting in the Peach State, the (RV) Freed-Hardeman University Lions held a lead in the bottom of the ninth inning before the No. 2 Georgia Gwinnett College Grizzlies hit a walkoff homer to claim victory, 11-10.

There was no shortage of offense with the Lions (17-7) and the Grizzlies combining for 25 hits. FHU had a couple of big hits including a three-run homer from Brooks Jones to put FHU on top after the top of the fifth inning.

Georgia Gwinnett (25-2) held a two-run lead entering the top of the ninth inning, but Brennen Gibson turned on a three-run homer and gave the Lions a late 10-7 lead. The home team was able to keep momentum before walking off with a victory with a two-run home run.

Brooks Jones and Brennen Gibson had identical stat lines, going 3-for-5, driving in three runs each, and scoring two runs. Drake Blackwood and Hunter Ryan each had two hits in the loss.

Jackson Fitzwilson had the start before giving way to the bullpen where Joe Romines (0-1) was charged with the loss.

Freed-Hardeman took advantage of two errors in the ninth inning after Trace Anderson led off with a double and a run crossed on an error. Hunter Ryan would later hit a single to drive the tying run in to set up Gibson to smack a three-run homer over the wall in left to give the Lions a late lead.

A leadoff walk and a single helped GGC hit a sacrifice fly before the Grizzlies pulled within one run with an RBI groundout. A double put the tying run on base before GGC hit the game-winning homer.
