HENDERSON — In the first game of a three-game Mid-South Conference series, the (RV) Freed-Hardeman University Lions had six different players smash home runs to win the opener, 13-7, over the Campbellsville University Tigers.
Freed-Hardeman (18-10, 3-1 MSC) batted around in the first inning, scoring seven runs: none bigger than
Tyree Claxton's grand slam. Campbellsville answered the bell with a four-run second inning.
The Lions would plate runs in the fourth, fifth, seventh, and eighth innings to extend their lead. Campbellsville (17-11, 4-3 MSC) would hit a two-run homer in the ninth, but FHU's early advantage was enough to ride out the win.
FHU was zeroed in at the plate, tallying 17 hits in the win.
Trace Anderson,
Drake Blackwood,
Hunter McLemore, and
JJ Pruneau each had three hits in the win while
Brennen Gibson had a two-hit day.
After
Jackson Fitzwilson's start ended after 4 1/3 innings,
Colton Bryant (4-1) had the win in relief before giving way to
Justin Smarr (2) who would qualify for the save after tossing four complete innings where he struck out five batters.
