Home Run Hardy breaks two records in doubleheader sweep

HENDERSON — Myleah Hardy had a Saturday to remember as the (RV) Freed-Hardeman University Lady Lions faced the Bryan (Tenn.) College Lions. In the second game, she hit two home runs, the first giving her 33 career homers to break FHU's career record. In her next at-bat, she smashed her 14th big fly of the season, setting a new record for the most in a single season. FHU would win both games, first with a 10-4 victory before winning the second, 4-0.

In the day's opener, Freed-Hardeman (16-16) fell behind after the guests put up a run in the third inning, but the FHU bats were unstoppable, connecting for 14 hits in the victory. In the bottom of the third inning, Myleah Hardy had an RBI double before Alivia Eggleston drove a pair of runs in.

Bryan (22-19) attempted a comeback with a two-run fifth inning, but the Lady Lions countered with four uns in the fourth and three runs in the fifth to secure the six-run win.

Alivia Eggleston was a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs driven in. Chloe Carter also produced three runs with three hits, while Myleah Hardy, Annalee Qualls, and Karli Quillin each had two base hits.

Reagan Locke (2-3) tossed the complete game, striking out three batters in the process.

Freed-Hardeman (17-16) escaped danger in the top of the first after Bryan managed to load the bases with just one out. A fielder's choice and a flyout kept the game tied.

Myleah Hardy would hit her 33rd career big fly with a solo homer in the home half of the first. She would add the second long ball in the bottom of the third with a two-run blast. Alivia Eggleston followed with a solo shot of her own to give FHU the 4-0 advantage.

Alivia Eggleston was 3-for-3 in game two, giving her a 7-for-7 afternoon from the plate in the doubleheader. Myleah Hardy's two hits drove in a team-high three runs.

Katy Gartrell (6-7) got the complete-game victory where she punched out four Bryan batters.
