HENDERSON — The Freed-Hardeman University Lions earned a 4-3 victory over the Blue Mountain Christian (Miss.) University Toppers on Tuesday afternoon at the Jackson Tennis Center.
The Lions secured the doubles point as Daniel Bolivar and Benjamin Ganem picked up a 6-4 victory on the No. 1 court while Tom Marie and Daan van Miltenburg followed with a 6-3 win at No. 2. Carlos Garcia and Dev Prakash fell 6-2 on the No. 3 court, but Freed-Hardeman (2-11) held the early advantage.
In singles play against Blue Moutnain Christian (2-11), Marie earned a 6-2, 6-0 victory on the No. 3 court while van Miltenburg picked up a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 5. Garcia followed with a 6-2, 6-2 victory on the No. 6 court to secure the match for the Lions. Prakash fell 6-3, 6-4 at No. 1 singles while Ganem battled in a three-set match before coming up short 6-3, 1-6, 1-0(10-8) on the No. 2 court. Bolivar dropped his match 6-2, 6-3 at No. 4 to round out the contest.
Returning to Mid-South Conference play, FHU fell to the Georgetown Tigers in Kentucky, 5-2.
Freed-Hardeman (2-12, 0-5 MSC) was unable to secure the doubles point as Daniel Bolivar and Benjamin Ganem fell 6-4 on the No. 1 court while Tom Marie and Daan van Miltenburg dropped a 6-3 decision at No. 2. Carlos Garcia and Dev Prakash picked up a 6-3 victory on the No. 3 court, but the Lions trailed 1-0 entering singles play.
In singles action, Benjamin Ganem battled back for a three-set victory over the Tigers (6-10, 1-4 MSC) on the No. 2 court, 3-6, 6-3, 6-0, while Daan van Miltenburg added another point with a three-set win at No. 5, 6-3, 0-6, 1-0(10-2). Dev Prakash fell 6-2, 7-5 on the No. 1 court and Tom Marie came up short in three sets, 6-4, 2-6, 6-4, at No. 3 singles. Daniel Bolivar dropped a tight first set in a tiebreak before falling 7-6(4), 6-1 on the No. 4 court, and Carlos Garcia was defeated 6-2, 6-1 at No. 6 to round out the match.
