COLUMBIA, Ky. — Holding the No. 4 seed in the Mid-South Conference tournament, the Freed-Hardeman University Lady Lions drew the same opponent they ended the regular season with. The (5) Georgetown Tigers hoped the fourth time would be the charm, but a one-hitter from
Hannah Jones and a sacrifice fly from
Reagan Locke gave the Lady Lions the victory, 1-0.
A pitchers' duel from first pitch to the last, the Lady Lions (21-19) leaned on
Hannah Jones from both the circle and the plate. The freshman led off the secodn inning with a walk, eventually becoming the game's only run with
Reagan Locke's sac fly later in the frame.
Georgetown (17-21) broke up the no-hitter with two outs in the top of the fifth inning, but Jones quickly shut down the next batter. The Tigers were inches away from taking the lead with one out in the top of the seventh when, with a runner on, a Tiger hit a ball to deep center field, but Karli Qullin was able to record the out and erase the threat.
FHU's two hits both came in the second inning with
Lynnlee Brown joining
Hannah Jones in the hit column.
Hannah Jones (8-3) was dynamite in the circle, allowing one hit in the shutout tournament victory while striking out two tigers.
