The Lady Lions continue their winning ways as they defeat United States Sports University (Ala.) 3-2 at home. The Lady Lions were quick on the offensive attack as they attempted six shots, five on goal, before Morakane Mokhothu got a shot to fall with an assist from Alexia Lorenzo-Pereira in the 27th minute. At the 41 minute mark, the Lady Eagles were able to capitalize on a free kick by Cameron Cain leading to a Katherine Solis goal to tie the contest at 1. However, Isabel Croke was able to take the lead right back just one minute later, getting a rebound off a Marta Martin cross bar and putting it in the net. Freed-Hardeman was able to take a 2-1 lead into the half.Â
In the second half, Maria Paz Mora Silva made her return to relieve starter Layla Olson in the goal for the Lady Lions. Just 10 minutes into the half, Isabel Croke was able to score her second goal of the game on a penalty kick to increase the lead 3-1 in favor of FHU. After some back and forth action, Ambria Snell was able to get the Lady Eagles to within one score after a goal in the 76th minute. For the final ten minutes, the USSU held possession for most of that time after playing defense for the majority of the game. Despite winning the possession battle for that time, they were unable to tie the game, and the Lady Lions would go on to win the match 3-2! This is the first winning streak for the Freed-Hardeman women's soccer team since September 2024. The team finished with a 0.542 on goal percentage, with 13 of their 24 shots being on target, while only giving up five shots on goal, with Olson gaining a save and Paz Mora Silva making two.
The Lady Lions will look to continue their momentum as they welcome conference opponent and #20-ranked Cumberland to their home at 4 pm on Friday, September 18.
