PULASKI, Tenn. — The 2026-27 Freed-Hardeman University Lady Lion golf season got underway at the FireHawk Fall Invitational.
Peyton Mraz made slashes with her collegiate career's first match, winning the invitational with 216 (E) across three rounds. As a team, FHU carded 309 (+21) in the first round, 306 (+18) in the second, before finishing with a 305 (+17) final round. Their aggregate 920 (+56) was good enough for second place, just two strokes shy of tying for the lead.
Peyton Mraz was lights out from the start, starting her tournament on the 17th hole and promptly carded a birdie on the par-5 18th. She would turn around and end below par on the par-3 eighth and the par-4 11th holes. By the end of her first round, she was sitting at 73 (+1). In her second trip around the course, Mraz finished above par just twice. In the meantime, she had a pair of par-4 birdies on the sixth and the 15th holes, while dropping two par-5 birdies on the 12th and the 18th holes to help her finish in red with 70 (-2).
She stayed strong in her final 18, carding birdies on the par-3 third, the par-3 13th and the par-4 16th. All told, her 216 (E) helped her finish as the champion by eight strokes.
Just behind Mraz was sophomore
Zoe Phillips. Phillips was shooting at par for a majority of the first and second rounds, with one birdie in each round. The third set was more high-risk high-reward, as she finished with more holes over par, but also more than doubling her birdie total with a birdie at all three distances. Her three-round 224 (+8) gave her a share of second place.
Hannah Ruth Walton kicked off her senior year with a birdie on the par-4 first hole in her first round. She would later card back-to-back birdies on the par-3 third and the par-4 fourth. Finishing in ninth place, Phillips had 232 (+16).
Maizie Bailey and
Shelby Smith finished their season-opener neck-and-neck with both tallying 261 (+45). Bailey wrote down a birdie on the par-5 seventh hole in the first round.
Competing as an individual,
Camryn Porior had a big swing in the third round, carding FHU's lone each on the par-5 second hole. Across all three rounds, she carded six birdies to shoot 261 (+21) and finish in 11th place. For her turn, Smith had her birdie in the final round on the par-5 seventh hole.
