Box Score 2 HENDERSON, Tenn. - Sarah Elizabeth Cousar allowed one run over two games as the Freed-Hardeman Lady Lions swept their first conference double-header of the year and evened their TranSouth record with 6-1 and 9-0 wins over Mid-Continent (Ky.) University on Thursday.
FHU (15-14, 8-8) pounded out 20 hits in the two games while Cousar limited the Cougars (9-17, 5-15) to five.
Mid-Continent scored its only run of the night in the first inning of game one after getting back-to-back singles to start the game. FHU got the run back in the bottom of the inning when
Shelby Cummings led off with a single, stole second, and moved around on a pair of groundouts.
Amber Vansandt came around to score on a fielder's choice after reaching base with a leadoff double to give the Lady Lions a 2-1 lead in the second inning.
The score remained close until the fifth inning, when FHU scored four runs on five hits. Vansandt had a two-run double in between RBI hits by
Mercedes Norfork and
Bailey Morgan.
In game two, Freed-Hardeman jumped on top early with three runs in the first inning thanks to an RBI single by
Brittany Yates and a two-run double by Norfork. Cummings added a solo home run in the second to give the Lady Lions a 4-0 lead.
Yates added RBI singles in the fourth and sixth innings, and the game ended in the sixth after Norfork hit a two-run home run to put FHU ahead 9-0.
Vansandt went 3-for-3 in game one with two RBI, while Yates was 3-for-4 in the nightcap with four RBI. Cummings also went 3-for-4 in game two while Norfork had four RBI in the game as well.
Cousar (10-4) allowed no earned runs and struck out 13 batters over 13 innings pitched.
The Lady Lions return to action on Friday hosting Trevecca Nazarene (Tenn.) University at 4:00 PM.
