Box Score PULASKI, Tenn. - Five Freed-Hardeman Lady Lion softball players were named to the All-TranSouth Conference teams released on Tuesday, May 1.
Sarah Elizabeth Cousar and
Amber Vansandt were first-team selections while
Brittany Yates,
Shelby Cummings and
Mercedes Norfork were second-team selections.
Cousar, a sophomore pitcher/third baseman from Covington, Tenn., led the conference in ERA at 1.16 and also went 19-5 in the circle with 176 strikeouts. At the plate, she hit .327 with 50 hits, three home runs and 18 RBI.
Vansandt, a junior catcher from Killen, Ala., led FHU in hitting with a .341 batting average and 30 RBI. She also had a team-high 14 doubles during the regular season.
Yates, a senior first baseman from Jackson, Tenn., hit .314 with 20 RBI to earn her fourth all-conference selection. Cummings, a junior second baseman from Jackson, Tenn., hit .331 with 18 extra-base hits and 21 RBI while Norfork, a junior shortstop from Ripley, Tenn., hit .313 with three home runs and 27 RBI.
Savannah Cole,
Summer Cole and Cousar were also recognized as TranSouth Conference Scholar Athletes. To receive the award, student-athletes must be a sophomore or above in academic classification and have a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or above.
The Lady Lions are the No. 2 seed in the TranSouth Conference Championships which begin on Wednesday, May 2. FHU takes on Bethel (Tenn.) University at 5:00 PM.
