Box Score 2 DECATUR, Ala. - The Freed-Hardeman Lady Lions went 1-2 on their first day of competition at the Alabama Arctic Blast in Decatur, falling to No. 5 Reinhardt (Ga.) and Point (Ga.) before bouncing back to defeat Tennessee Wesleyan to finish the night.
Reinhardt scored three runs in the first on its way to a 6-1 win over the Lady Lions. After FHU pitcher Sarah Elizabeth Cousar issued walks to the first two hitters, Randi Wimpy launched a three-run home run to give her team a quick lead.
Meanwhile, the Lady Lion bats had trouble getting anything going against Reinhardt pitcher Madison Luck who set down the first 13 batters she faced before Kamara Trice reached on an error in the top of the fifth.
Kohnley Wade broke up the no-hit bid with a leadoff single in the sixth and came around to score on a double by Bailey Morgan for FHU's lone run.
A four-run sixth inning was the difference in a 9-6 loss to Point. A one-out, three-run home run by Ashley Robinson did the most damage. FHU threatened to come back in the bottom of the inning, scoring a run after Bo Sullivan reached on an error to lead off the inning but stranded two runners. The side was then retired in order in the seventh.
Kamara Trice (0-1) took the loss in relief of Katie Clarke, allowing five runs in three innings of work. Clarke allowed four runs and six hits in four innings in the no-decision.
Cousar (1-2) bounced back in the nightcap to toss her first shutout of the season, limiting Tennessee Wesleyan to five hits while striking out five. FHU got an RBI double from Amanda Bond in the third and an RBI single from Lauren Bradley in the sixth to take a 2-0 win.
Wade, Bond and Cousar all had three hits on the day.
The Lady Lions wrap up play at the event on Saturday facing two ranked opponents in No. 9 Belhaven (Miss.) and No. 11 Lindsey Wilson (Ky.).
