Box Score 2 PARKVILLE, Mo. - The Freed-Hardeman Lady Lions came within one out of sweeping a double-header from No. 17 Park (Mo.) University, but instead settled for a split on Friday winning game one, 3-2 in eight innings, before losing game two, 4-3.
A two-out, two-run double by Park's Shaya Kinsey in the top of the seventh of game two kept FHU from completing the sweep after the Lady Lions rallied from 2-0 deficits in both games. And both times, they used the long ball to do so.
In game one, a pair of two-out errors in the fourth and fifth innings led to two unearned runs for Park as the Pirates took a 2-0 lead into the sixth. Kamara Trice broke up the shutout and got FHU on the board with a lead-off homerun in the sixth, and one inning later the Lady Lions tied the game on an RBI double by Allie Carpenter.
Although the Lady Lions missed a chance to take the lead in the seventh after leaving the bases loaded, they didn't need long in the eighth to do so. Bailey Morgan led off the inning with what proved to be the game-winning home run as Sarah Elizabeth Cousar finished things off in the bottom of the inning stranding the tying run at third.
Freed-Hardeman again fell behind 2-0 in game two after a two-run home run by Park's Megan Palmer in the fourth. But Morgan matched it with her second home run of the day in the bottom of the inning to tie the game and FHU took a 3-2 lead in the sixth after a two-out single by Natalie Nelson scored Cousar.
Park was down to its final out before Kinsey's double brought in the tying and go-ahead runs, and FHU saw a seventh-inning rally squelched on a game-ending double-play after getting runners on first and second with one out.
Cousar (9-8) took the decision in both games, going all eight innings in game one and entering in relief in game two. Jessica Weeks went 4-for-7 on the day with two hits in each game. Morgan and Carpenter both had two hits in game two.
The loss in game two dropped FHU (15-14, 12-2) out of first place in the American Midwest standings behind Columbia (7-1) and tomorrow's opponent, William Woods (9-1). The Lady Lion visit the Owls for a double-header beginning at noon.
