GULF SHORES, Ala. - The Freed-Hardeman Lady Lions had a good showing on the first day of the Gulf Shores Invitational, splitting a pair of games against ranked opponents.

FHU (2-2) hung with No. 4 Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) in the opening game, but the Blue Raiders used a three-run fifth inning to pick up a 3-0 win.

The Lady Lions had a few chances, the best of which came in the top of the fourth after putting runners on first and second with one out before LWC pitcher Casey Bryan got a pair of groundouts to end the inning.

Lindsey Wilson's Chelsea Showers broke the scoreless tie with a leadoff home run in the top of the fifth, and the Blue Raiders added two more runs after Mallory Spurlock retired the next tow hitters.

Spurlock (1-1) struck out seven and limited the Blue Raiders to seven hits.

The Lady Lions bounced back in game two with an 11-7 win over Georgia Gwinnett College, which is receiving votes in the national poll. Deadlocked at 6-6 after seven innings, FHU scored four times in the ninth to take the victory.

Kamara Trice (1-1) went the distance in the circle and blasted a two-run home run in the first inning, her third of the season.

After the game went to extra innings, each team scored a run in the eighth before FHU blew it open in the ninth with four runs. Sierra Bateman started things off with an RBI single, and Jessica Weeks and Caitlyn Carter later added RBI singles with two outs.

Carter also set a new program record in the game with five hits, breaking the previous record of four held by several players.

The Lady Lions play two more game tomorrow, first against Spring Hill (Ala.) at 12:00 PM followed by Thomas (Ga.) at 4:00 PM.
