Matt Barker, Sports Information Director

HENDERSON, Tenn. - The Freed-Hardeman Lady Lion softball team continued their dominance in conference play Friday as they swept St. Louis College of Pharmacy with an 8-0 shutout in the opening game followed by a 4-2 win in the nightcap at Morgan Stadium.

Game 1- FHU- 8, STLCOP- 0

Mallory Spurlock (7-3) picked up the win in the opening game after working six innings and allowing just two hits while striking out seven. The Lady Lions pounded out six hits and reached base on 13 walks to take over the game early.

Caitlyn Carter led the Lady Lions at the plate as she went 2-for-3 and had three RBI's and two steals in the win. Kristen Hunsicker also contributed at the plate as she went 2-for-3 on the day and added a stolen base to keep FHU in control.

The Lady Lions would get things started early with two runs in the bottom half of the first inning as Caitlyn Carter would score the first run of the game off a sacrifice fly by Jordan Burton. Jenna Graham would also cross the plate in the inning following a walk by Malorie Prince with bases loaded.

FHU would add four more runs in the bottom half of the fifth inning as they would use two hits and three errors by the Eutectics to run away with a 6-0 lead. Malorie Prince, Kristen Hunsicker, Katie Sholl and Caitlyn Carter would all cross the plate in the inning to give the Lady Lions enough cushion to pull away for good.

The Lady Lions would press two more across in the bottom half of the sixth inning as Malorie Prince and Kristen Hunsicker would both score on a double to deep left field by Caitlyn Carter. The Lady Lions would shut the Eutectics down in the seventh to secure the 8-0 victory and pick up their fourth conference win of the season.

Game 2- FHU- 4 , STLCOP- 2

If one win was not enough for Sophomore Mallory Spurlock, she added one more in the nightcap Friday to secure the 4-2 victory for the Lady Lions. After working six innings in the opening game, Spurlock continued her dominance in the nightcap as she worked seven full innings and allowed just five hits and two runs while striking out four.

The multiple wins for Spurlock in the Friday series went down as her fourth straight win of the season as she also picked up a duo of wins in the series against Blue Mountain College earlier in the week.

Jenna Graham led the Lady Lions at the plate as she went 2-for-3 on the day and added a double for good measure. FHU pounded out eight hits in the game to keep the momentum alive in the nightcap.

The Lady Lions would trail for a majority of the game as St. Louis College of Pharmacy jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning as a double by Kelsey Toler scored Allison Dewald and Tayler Evans to give the Eutectics an early advantage.

The Eutectics would keep the 2-0 lead until the Lady Lions were able to respond in the bottom half of the fifth inning with a run to close the gap at the 2-1 mark. Jenna Graham would score the only run in the inning off a sacrifice fly by Jordan Burton.

The Lady Lions would add three more runs in the bottom half of the sixth inning as Katie Sholl, Jenna Graham and Allie Carpenter would all cross the plate to give FHU the 4-2 lead, which would be all the cushion they needed to hold on for their fifth conference win of the season.

With the series sweep, the Lady Lions move to 13-7 on the season and 5-1 in conference play.

UP NEXT: The Lady Lions will be back in action tomorrow as they host No. 23 Lindenwood University-Belleville for a double-header beginning at 12:00 PM at Morgan Stadium.
