WALESKA, Ga. - The Freed-Hardeman Lady Lion softball team split a pair of games Saturday afternoon in the final day of the Reinhardt Invitational, as they picked up a 2-1 payback win over Bryan College before falling 9-1 to No. 7 Georgia Gwinnett College on the road in Waleska, Ga.
In the opening game of the day, the Lady Lions (5-3) were out for some payback after dropping a 2-1 match-up Friday afternoon to Bryan College. Payback is exactly what they got, as they turned the tables to pick up a 2-1 victory of their own.
The Lady Lions did all of their damage in the fourth inning, as two runs crossed the plate to give FHU a 2-0 lead. Makenzie Prince crossed the plate first in the inning for the Lady Lions after reaching on a single to center field and scoring off a triple to deep left field by Annalise Jarnagin. Jarnagin also crossed the plate in the inning following a sacrifice fly by Annaka Baxter to add another insurance run, which proved valuable.
Bryan College pushed one run of their own across in the top part of the fifth inning, as Lindsey Dunn crossed the plate following an RBI single from Sydney Olander to close the gap to one run at the 2-1 mark. However, Bryan College would not get any closer than one run, as the Lady Lions held on for the 2-1 victory.
Makenzie Prince (3-1) picked up the win after working a complete game and allowing just five hits while striking out two batters. Prince also led FHU at the plate, going 2-for-3 on the day. Annalise Jarnagin also found success at the plate for the Lady Lions and went 1-for-3 with a triple and one RBI.
Despite picking up a solid victory in the opening game of the day, the Lady Lions could not carry the momentum into the nightcap, as they suffered a 9-1 loss at the hands of No. 7 Georgia Gwinnett College to conclude play in the Reinhardt Invitational. Georgia Gwinnett pounded out 11 hits in the match-up while FHU scattered just three hits in the loss.
With the Saturday split, the Lady Lions move to 5-3 on the season.
