ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The Lady Lions softball team (9-4, 4-2 AMC) earned its fourth straight conference win after blanking Harris-Stowe State (0-10, 0-8 AMC) 8-0 and 11-0 in Saturday's double-header.
Both games ended in five innings due to a mercy rule, and in game one, the Lady Lions scored at least one run in all but one inning.
The scored just one run in the top of the first when Kaylyn Graham brought in Sophie Dunavant on a single after Dunavant reached on a lead-off walk and stole second base.
After a scoreless second inning, Freed-Hardeman opened things up in the top of the third by scoring three runs. Dunavant hit a double to lead off the inning and was brought in on an error by the shortstop. Morgan Crawford hit a two-run home run to highlight the inning.
The visitors would score two runs in both the fourth and fifth innings. Caitlin Mitchell brought Allie Mitchell across the plate after hitting a double, and Dunavant would score her third run of the game, this time off an error by the right fielder.
In the fifth inning, the Lady Lions had runners on first and second, and another error by the right fielder scored Cassie Hayes, and the final run came across when Lilly Bombard reached home on a fielder's choice.
Crawford pitched all five innings, earning the shut out, and only giving up one hit while striking out eight batters.
Game two was much of the same, with the Lady Lions scoring in all but the fifth inning.
One run came across the plate in the top of the first when Annalise Jarnagin brought in Laiken Page with a sacrifice fly.
The visitors would explode for five runs in the top of the second, highlighted by a two-run home run from Graham.
Five more runs came across the plate in the third and fourth innings combined, two in the third and three in the fourth.
Emily Bradford was in the circle for the Lady Lions, going the full five innings while striking out nine batters and only conceding two hits.
The Lady Lions will be on the road again on Tuesday when they travel to Cumberland University for a double-header. Game one is scheduled to start at 1 p.m.
