LEBANON, Tenn. – The Lady Lions softball team (10-5, 4-2 AMC) continued its road trip with an appearance at Cumberland University (12-5, 0-2 MSC), splitting the double-header with a 7-6 loss in game one, but a bounce-back 4-2 win in game two on Tuesday afternoon.

It was all Cumberland in game one, as they were able to go up 6-0 through the first inning.

But the Lady Lions were able to battle back in the fourth and fifth innings. Morgan Crawford hit a two-run home run in the top of the fourth inning, but the Phoenix were able to get one run back in the bottom half of the inning.

The Lady Lions regained some momentum after Caitlin Mitchell hit a massive grand slam in the top of the fifth inning to make it a one-run game. But Cumberland was able to hold the visitors at bay and earn the win.

Crawford threw the full six innings and had two strikeouts.

Game two was a different story for the Lady Lions, as they were able to jump ahead in the top of the first inning when Kaylyn Graham hit a two-run home run.

Cumberland got one run back in the bottom half of the inning, but Freed extended its lead in the fourth and fifth innings after a second home run from Graham in the top of the fourth and another homer by Cassie Hayes in the top of the fifth.

Cumberland scored one more in the bottom of the seventh, but the comeback would be halted, and the Lady Lions would escape with a split series.

Emily Bradford had a strong outing in the circle, going the full seven innings and striking out two batters.

The Lady Lions will continue their road trip on Saturday when they face Williams Baptist at 12 noon in a double-header.
