HENDERSON, Tenn. – The Lady Lions softball game (15-6, 7-3) rallied in game one and dominated in game two against William Woods (9-16, 4-6 AMC) to sweep the Owls 5-4 and 6-0 on Thursday afternoon.
The big bat of Kaylyn Graham helped lead the way to victory in game one for the Lady Lions, as the senior first baseman went 2-for-3 with two home runs, one over the big wall in center field in the third inning and a leadoff homer in the bottom of the sixth, which gave Freed-Hardeman the lead.
The Lady Lions took a 3-0 lead into the fourth inning after Graham's first round-tripper in the third and a two-run triple by Lilly Bombard in the second. But the Owls were able to score four runs in the top of the fourth to take the lead halfway through the contest.
Graham's leadoff home run in the sixth and a single by Laiken Paige, scoring Annalise Jarnagin with the bases loaded, gave the home squad the lead, which they would hold on to.
The Owls were able to get a staggering 15 hits in the contest, but they left 12 batters on base. Morgan Crawford threw the complete game for the Lady Lions, striking out three batters.
In game two, it was all Lady Lions, and it started with Cassie Hayes, who hit a leadoff home run in the bottom of the first inning.
The home team scored four more runs in the bottom of the second to extend the lead to 5-0.
Hayes added two more RBIs when she hit a single with two outs, scoring Bombard and Allie Mitchell. Graham brought in the other two runs after hitting a double to center field, scoring Emily Bradford and Hayes.
They scored their sixth and final run in the bottom of the fifth when Mitchell brought in Jarnagin with a single.
It was a stellar afternoon in the circle for Bradford, who went the full seven innings, striking out four batters and only conceding one walk while shutting out the Owls.
The Lady Lions will be at home again on Friday in another conference matchup, this time against Park University. Game one of the double-header is set to begin at 1 p.m.
