COLUMBIA, Mo. – After falling 3-1 in game one of the double-header, the Lady Lions (20-9, 12-6 AMC) were able to win their 20th game of the season after taking down Columbia (21-9, 12-2 AMC) 2-1 in game two in the American Midwest Conference Game of the Week.
After going down 1-0 in the bottom of the very first inning, the Lady Lions scored two late runs in the top of the sixth to take the lead, which they would hold on to in order to win the low-scoring affair.
It was off the bat of Kaylyn Graham where the Lady Lions were able to take the late lead.
After Cassie Hayes led the inning off with a walk followed by a stolen base, Graham stepped to the plate with one out, and her two-run shot came just three pitches later, giving her a conference-leading nine round trippers.
Emily Bradford had yet another strong outing in the circle, going the full seven innings and striking out four batters. She only gave up one base on balls.
In the loss in game one, the Lady Lions trailed 3-0 after six innings. It was a scoreless game up until the bottom of the fifth when the Cougars put two on the board.
The visitors were able to get one run back in the top of the seventh when Kristen Hunsicker hit a two-out double, driving in Caitlin Mitchell, but they were unable to get the final two runs that would've extended the game.
Morgan Crawford struck out five batters in her six innings pitched.
The Lady Lions will continue their road trip on Tuesday when they head to Martin Methodist for a double-header. Game one is set for 3 p.m.
