COLUMBIA, Mo. – The No. 5 seed Lady Lions (26-12, 16-9 AMC) earned an opening-round win over the four-seed Lyon College (31-13, 17-7 AMC) by a score of 2-1 behind a two-run home run hit by Morgan Crawford in the second inning.
Crawford was excellent in both aspects of the game for the Lady Lions. Alongside bringing in the only two runs of the game for the away team, she also nearly threw a complete-game shutout in the circle.
She had the Scots blanked through the first six two-thirds innings of action before they were able to get a run on the board late in the seventh inning. She struck out three batters while only surrendering one walk and four hits.
Annalise Jarnagin, Caitlin Mitchell and Kaylyn Graham all provided extra-base hits for the Lady Lions. Jarnagin hit a triple in the sixth inning, and Mitchell and Graham doubled in the seventh and third innings, respectively.
The Lady Lions move on in the winners' bracket and will take on the No. 1 seed Columbia Cougars on Thursday at 12 noon.
