WALESKA, Ga. – The Lady Lions softball team (0-2) lost its first two games of the Reinhardt Invitational and the season on Friday, falling 8-0 to No. 20 South Carolina-Beaufort (10-1) in the first game and 7-6 in extra innings to Reinhardt University (7-2) in game two.
After falling behind 1-0 in the game against Reinhardt, the Lady Lions were able to score two runs in the top of the fourth inning after Annalise Jarnagin brought in Cassie Hayes and Sophie Dunavant on a double to left field.
The Eagles added four runs of their own in the bottom half of the inning, but FHU came back with three runs of their own to tie things up 5-5 in the top of the fifth, highlighted by a two-run double by Caitlin Mitchell.
The game would stay tied through the seventh inning, sending the game to extra innings, in which they implemented the international tie breaker rule.
The Lady Lions put Brittan Jarrell on second base in place of Mitchell, and a wild pitch moved her to third base with no outs. Jarnagin brought in her third run of the game with a sacrifice bunt that plated Jarrell and broke the tie.
In the bottom half of the eighth, though, the Eagles were able to get runners on second and third with just one out, and a hard-hit triple plated both runs, giving the Eagles the walk-off win.
The Lady Lions will close out their time in Georgia with two more games on Saturday. The first game starts at 9 a.m. against Midway University, followed by a matchup at 11 a.m. against future Mid-South Conference foe No. 13 Campbellsville University.
