Box Score 2 HENDERSON, Tenn. – The Lady Lions softball team (2-0) earned two wins to start the 2021 season off over (RV) Lyon College (3-3), winning 2-0 and 3-0 in the double-header.
Both matchups were strong, defensive and pitching duals, dominated by FHU arms Morgan Crawford and Brittany Adair.
In the first contest, Crawford threw all seven innings with four strikeouts and only giving up four hits. Her defense did some strong work behind her as well, recording one inning-ended double play, as well as getting out of a bases-loaded jam in the top of the fourth inning that would've given the Scots the lead.
Annalise Jarnagin, Cassie Hayes and Allie Mitchell each put up 2-for-3 outings in the contest, and Hayes brought in the second run of the sixth inning to give the Lady Lions a 2-0 lead.
In the second game, Adair dominated from the jump, recording five of her eight strikeouts in the first three innings. She only surrendered two hits in the contest on her way to the complete-game shutout and win.
The Lady Lions jumped out to an early 1-0 lead after Kennedy Harris hit a one-out triple in the bottom of the first, and she was brought in by a Jarnagin sacrifice fly.
FHU scored their final two runs to put the game out of reach in the bottom of the sixth inning when Sophie Dunavant hit a one-out single and was advanced to third on a single to right field by Hayes.
Hayes went on to steal second base, and both runs were brought in on a single by Caitlin Mitchell to put the game away.
Mitchell finished the contest 3-for-3 in the win with the two RBI's.
The Lady Lions will be back in action on February 18 when they travel to Florida. They'll take on No. 19 Warner University in a double-header on that day, followed by double-headers against Southeastern University and No. 25 Webber International on February 19 and 20.
