Box Score 2 HENDERSON, Tenn. – The (RV) Lady Lions softball team (15-5, 7-3 MSC) knocked off its former American Midwest Conference foe Missouri Baptist (3-5) 2-1 and 7-1 on Saturday night.
Game one was a pitcher's and defensive dual, but the Spartans were able to get on the board in the top of the second inning due to a couple of defensive miscues by the Lady Lions.
After an error and a passed ball by the Spartans in the bottom of the fifth, Catherine Crabb was able to cross the plate to tie the game at 1-1.
With two outs in the bottom of the sixth inning, Caitlin Mitchell came in to pinch hit and was able to hit a bloop single to right field. Brittan Jarrell came in to pinch run for Mitchell, and she advanced to third base when Crabb hit a single to left-center field. She then scored off the bat of Kennedy Harris for the go-ahead run, which would turn into the winning run.
Crabb got the start in the circle and pitched four and one-third inning with two strikeouts. Morgan Crawford earned the win after two and two-thirds innings, striking out two batters.
The Lady Lions and their bats got off to a scorching start in game two when they scored six runs and batted all the way around the lineup in the first inning. The inning was highlighted by a two-run home run by Harris, her second bomb of the season.
The Spartans pitching settled in and kept the Lady Lions from scoring for the next four innings before the lady Lions added one more run in the bottom of the sixth when Harris was brought in on a single by Chloe Winters.
Brittany Adair got the start and the win for the Lady Lions after throwing three no-hit innings with four strikeouts. Winters came on in relief in the fourth inning to finish out the game, striking out six batters in four innings.
The Lady Lions will be back in action on Tuesday when they host Blue Mountain. The doubleheader is scheduled to start at 3 p.m.
