Lady Lions shut out Toppers in doubleheader sweep

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

HENDERSON, Tenn. – The (RV) Lady Lions softball team (17-5, 7-3 MSC) won its seventh and eighth games in a row after shutting out Blue Mountain (5-7, 2-2 SSAC) 4-0 and 2-0 in Tuesday's doubleheader.

The Lady Lions got out to the perfect start in game one, scoring one run in both the first and second innings, and sending two across the plate in the third inning.

Cassie Hayes had a perfect game one at the plate, going 2-for-2 with a double, and RBI and a walk. Sophie Dunavant added a double and an RBI, and Morgan Crawford and Laiken Paige each brought in a run.

Crawford threw a gem out of the circle, going all seven innings while only giving up two hits and walking no Blue Mountain hitters.

Game two was a pitcher's dual, with Lady Lions freshman Chloe Winters nearly throwing a no-hitter. She gave up her first and only hit in the top of the sixth inning while striking out four batters and surrendering no walks.

The score was deadlocked at 0-0 until Caitlin Mitchell entered the game as a pinch hitter in the bottom of the sixth with Hayes on first and one out. She struck the first pitch she saw over the left-field wall to give the Lady Lions the 2-0 lead, which they would hold on to for the win and the sweep.

The Lady Lions will hit the road on Friday to continue Mid-South Conference play against the University of the Cumberlands. Friday's doubleheader is scheduled for 3 p.m. central time, with Saturday's scheduled for 11 a.m. central time.
