Lady Lions take first two at Cumberlands

WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. – The Lady Lions softball team (19-5, 9-3 MSC) extended its win streak to 10 games with two shutout wins over the University of the Cumberlands (23-7, 4-2 MSC), winning 7-0 in game one and 6-0 in game two.

The Lady Lions got off to their typical hot start, scoring two runs in the top of the first off the bats of Morgan Crawfod and Cassie Hayes.

They added three more in the top of the second when Sophie Dunavant hit a three-run home run with two outs, her first long ball of the season.

After a scoreless third inning, FHU added another run in the top of the fourth when Allie Mitchell hit a leadoff bomb, her second home run of the season. The scored their seventh and final run of the contest in the top of the sixth when Crawford added her second RBI of the game when she brought in Catherine Crabb.

Morgan Crawford pitched the full seven innings, striking out three batters in the shutout win.

In game two, the Lady Lions scored four runs in the top of the second when Hayes, Mitchell, Laiken Page and Annalise Jarnagin all crossed the plate. Jarnagin and Page both brought in runs with a double and single.

They added their fifth run of the game in the top of the fourth after Mitchell hit her second double of the game, advancing Samantha Morgan to third base. Morgan then scored when Page brought in her second run of the game on a single to left field. Hayes later hit a double in the top of the seventh, scoring Emory Thomas, to make it 6-0.

Brittany Adair dominated in the circle, striking out 13 batters in the complete-game win while only surrendering one hit.

The Lady Lions will go for the series win and the four-game sweep on Sunday. Game one of the doubleheader is set for 12 noon central time.
