Box Score 2 COLUMBIA, Ky. – The No. 18 Lady Lions (38-10) knocked off Martin Methodist (11-29) 14-4 in six innings in the first game of the Mid-South Conference Tournament on Thursday, but fell 7-2 to two-seed Lindsey Wilson (38-7) in their second game of the day.
The bats were hot for the Lady Lions in game one, totaling five home runs in the lopsided win.
FHU got things started with two runs in the top of the first inning thanks to a Morgan Crawford RBI double and a sacrifice fly by Cassie Hayes, scoring Kennedy Harris and Sophie Dunavant, respectively.
To start the bottom of the second, Samantha Morgan hit a leadoff home run to make it 3-0, and an RBI single by Laiken Page plated Annalise Jarnagin in the bottom of the third to make it 4-0.
In the top of the fourth, the Redhawks were able to tie the game on a leadoff home run and a bases-clearing double. But the Lady Lions would respond thanks to back-to-back one-out bombs by Harris and Dunavant, followed by an RBI single from Morgan an a two-RBI double from Page to make it 9-4.
The Lady Lions would add their 10th run of the game in the bottom of the fifth when Harris led off the inning with her second home run of the game, and they would walk it off in the bottom of the sixth when Dunavant hit a grand slam to make it 14-4 and force the run rule.
Dunavant finished the contest with five RBI's in a 2-for-4 outing. Harris scored four runs and drove in two in a 2-for-3 game, and Morgan went 3-for-4 with two RBI's. Crawford earned the win in the circle after two innings of relief, and Chloe Winters struck out four batters in four innings.
In game two against Lindsey Wilson, the Lady Lions went down 1-0 on an unearned run in the bottom of the third inning, but after a scoreless fourth frame, they were able to tie it up thanks to a monster home run from Morgan, her second bomb of the day.
The Blue Raiders would regain the lead with two runs in the bottom of the fifth, but FHU wouldn't go away, cutting the lead back to one in the top of the sixth when Dunavant brought in her sixth total run of the day on a single that plated Allie Mitchell.
A Blue Raiders grand slam in the bottom of the sixth would make it 7-2, and the Lady Lions were unable to put a rally together, and they would fall to Lindsey Wilson to close out the day.
Brittany Adair struck out 10 batters in five and two-thirds innings pitched in the loss.
The Lady Lions will take on the No. 5 seed Bethel Wildcats on Friday at the Hord Softball Field in Campbellsville, Kentucky. First pitch is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. central standard time.
