Box Score 2 HENDERSON, TN – The Freed-Hardeman Lady Lions (17-0) took on the Pikeville University Bears at home in Morgan Stadium. The Lady Lions were able to take both games on a sunny Thursday afternoon, on March 10, 2022. The Lady Lions entered the day having recently gained the #4 NAIA National Ranking, and were keen to defend this placement through Mid-South Conference play.
The Lady Lions collected the first of these two wins with a 4-0 victory over Pikeville in a more defensive matchup than the games in the weekend previous. Morgan Crawford pitched a complete game shutout on the mound, and was supported by outstanding team defense. The Lady Lions held Pikeville to just two hits. The offense was a great supplement to the outstanding defense as Sophie Dunavant, Brittan Jarrell, and Allie Mitchell all drove in runs in the contest. Anna Kate Norton and Allie Mitchell were both able to grab two hits a piece in the matchup.
The second game began following a similar pattern as neither side was able to take a lead until an Anna Kate Norton single in the bottom of the 4th inning, which scored Cassie Hayes. The Lady Lions carried this 1-0 lead into the next inning as FHU found a few more runs by way of a Catherine Crabb double scoring Kennedy Harris, and a Sophie Dunavant single then scoring Crabb. The Lady Lions tallied a total of four runs in this contest as well. Pikeville scored their first and only run of the weekend in the top of the 6th inning. Chloe Winters controlled the game from the circle as she collected 13 strikeouts. The Lady Lions won 4-1 in the second matchup of the day.
The Lady Lions maintain their undefeated (17-0) record on the season after collecting both the two wins today, and are looking to add two more against Pikeville tomorrow March 11th at 12:00 and 2:00 PM in at Morgan Stadium in Henderson.
