Late rallies doom Lady Lions twice

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. — In a Mid-South Conference doubleheader, the (RV) Freed-Hardeman University Lady Lions saw their opponents, the Campbellsville Tigers, storm back to win both games on Thursday. After falling, 9-8, the Lady Lions came up short in a 6-5 final.

In the opener of the day, the Lady Lions (13-12, 7-3 MSC) took a big lead early. Chloe Carter hit a bases-clearing double with Myleah Hardy following with a two-run homer to help give FHU a 7-0 lead.

Campbellsville (15-13, 3-4 MSC) began to chip away with a three-run third inning before sealing the victory in walkoff fashion with a four-run seventh inning.

The Lady Lions had multiple hits from Lynnlee Brown, Chloe Carter, Myleah Hardy, and Reagan Locke.

Katy Gartrell (4-4) had the ball in the circle, pitching 6 2/3 innings with two strikeouts.

The Lady Lions took the first lead of the game thanks to Chloe Carter's one-out double. Two batters later, Reagan Locke would drive Carter home with a single.

FHU had two huge hits in the top of the second, first from Carter by clearing the bases with a double. Myleah Hardy followed that with a big swing of her own, this time smashing a two-run homer to cap the five-run frame.

The Lady Lions (13-13, 7-4 MSC) had a five-run lead after two innings evaporate when they were unable to muster any more runs after the second inning. FHU had RBI singles from Karli Quillin and Myleah Hardy in the early run production.

Campbellsville (16-13, 4-4 MSC) stayed the course, tallying runs in bunches with two in the third, fifth, and sixth innings.

Karli Quillin went 3-for-4 from the plate while Myleah Hardy and Lana Rowland each connected for two base hits.

Hannah Jones (6-3) had the start where she tossed 5 1/3 innings.

Karli Quillin led off the game with a single, eventually finding her way to third. Alivia Eggleston traded an out for an RBI with a sacrifice fly.

Reagan Locke got the frame started with a single, later scoring thanks to a Tiger error. Quillin's second base hit drove in another rune before Myleah Hardy and Alivia Eggleston had back-to-back RBI singles.
