Box Score 2 BATESVILLE, Ar. - The Freed-Hardeman Lady Lion softball team traveled to Lyon College on Friday afternoon for a pair of non-conference games. The Lady Lions swept the two game set by scores of 12-3 and 7-0.
The Lady Lions started slow in Game 1. FHU fell behind in the second inning 2-0. The Lady Lions would come back quickly in the next inning as Catherine Crabb and Sophie Dunavant both drove in runs to make the score 2-2. A few batters later, Anna Kate Norton drove a double to left field to give the Lady Lions a 4-2 lead after 3 innings. FHU would add 3 runs in the fourth aided by a triple by Cassie Hayes that scored two. Catherine Crabb homered to left field in the sixth and Anna Kate Norton continued her strong day later in the inning with a grand slam to make the score 12-3. Chloe Winters pitched 5 strong innings, striking out five, and picked up another win on the year. Brittany Adair came in to close out the game striking out the side in the 12-3 Lady Lion victory.
Emily Bradford received the start in the circle for the Lady Lions in Game 2 of the doubleheader. Bradford pitched well as she only allowed one hit in four shutout innings. Brittan Jarrell got the scoring started for the Lady Lions with an RBI single in the top of the second inning. Kennedy Harris added an exclamation point with a grand slam later in the inning to extend to lead to 5-0. Sophie Dunavant and Caitlin Mitchell added RBIs in the seventh for some insurance and to extend the Lady Lion lead to 7-0. Morgan Crawford pitched the last three innings of the game in relief of Bradford. Crawford did not allow a baserunner in her three innings and struck out four.
The Lady Lions recently received the ranking of number four in the NAIA poll that was released on Wednesday. They are the highest ranked team in the Mid-South Conference and currently are first in the standings by 4.5 games over second place Cumberland.
The Lady Lions return home to Tucker Field for a midweek matchup with Central Baptist on Tuesday. The games are slated to begin at 2:00 and 4:00 PM.
