BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – For the second time in as many days, (3) Freed-Hardeman University held the (12) Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) College Blue Raiders scoreless, this time in a 7-0 victory to cruise through the 2022 Mid-South Conference Tournament unscathed to capture both the regular season and tournament crowns.
Freed-Hardeman (48-3, 28-3 MSC) did not get on the board until the bottom of the third inning. Kennedy Harris led off the inning with a walk before Sophie Dunavant went yard for the seventh time this season, igniting the Lady Lions with a 2-0 advantage.
Anna Kate Norton knocked a two-bagger into left field before moving up 60 feet with a stolen base. Brittan Jarrell laid down a bunt to try and allow Norton to score, but a quick throw from the Blue Raider defense saw Norton tagged at home; however, after conferring, it was determined that obstruction occurred on the play and allowed Norton's run to count while Jarrell stretched to second on the fielder's choice.
Allie Mitchell kept the bats rolling with a single just past the shortstop before Harris tallied her second base knock of the day to load the bases. Catherine Crabb kept the carousel rotating with a single up the middle to plate Jarrell. Dunavant blasted in her third and fourth RBIs with a double into left-center field before Caitlin Mitchell's sacrifice fly plated Crabb as the final run of the inning and the game to push Freed-Hardeman ahead 7-0.
Lindsey Wilson (38-15, 22-8 MSC) had plenty of opportunities early, earning four hits against FHU starter Chloe Winters. Then came the 2022 Mid-South Conference Pitcher of the Year Brittany Adair (15-0) who would earn the win in relief. The junior hurler struck out 11 Blue Raiders in four innings, allowing a single hit.
MSC Player of the Year Dunavant showed her title well, going 3-for-4 in the championship game and driving in four runs.
"Not sure if I learned anything new," Coach Todd Humphry said of his team's performance in the tournament. "I've known we have a solid team and when we have energy and fun, we play well. I have a great group of ladies!"
Freed-Hardeman went a perfect 3-0 in Bowling Green, outscoring their opponents 14-1.
